Lions Devour Tourney Title

WINNSBORO – Lewisville High School traveled down I-77 on Dec. 30 to play in the championship game of the Booster Club Christmas Tournament. The Lions traveled back up I-77 as champions with a convincing 81-31 victory over the Eagles of Richard Winn.

Lewisville started the game on a 12-0 run as their full-court pressure created havoc for the Eagles. The Lions’ defense hounded RWA’s Cameron Cooper, keeping him from getting the shots he had been making the past few games. Lewisville ended the first on a 9-0 run after Cooper hit two free throws for the Eagles. Lewisville’s continued full-court defense single handily eliminated the Eagles from competition as Lewisville’s Marcus McCollough led the charge in the second quarter with 9 points. Lewisville as a team scored 32 points in the quarter as they held a commanding 53-13 lead at the half.

The second half began as the first as McCollough and the Lions cruised to an insurmountable lead in the game. Though the Eagles played hard, their efforts would continue to come up short as the Lions did not take their feet off the gas.

Lewisville had four players in double figures, led by Austin Bradshaw with 19. Mitchell Gibbons led the Eagles with 10. The Eagles next game is Jan. 9 at Anderson.
