Winnsboro – Funeral services for Elroy Collins, 93, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Blythewood Ward, 1391 Centerville Road, Ridgeway, S.C. 29130 with burial in Royal Pines Cemetery in Winnsboro. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Pope Funeral Home.
Mr. Collins passed on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Born in Ridgeway, he was the son of the late Owen Rockwell and Katie Wilson Collins. Mr. Collins served in the United States Army receiving a Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart among other medals and badges during his two years of service to our Country.
Mr. Collins is survived by a loving family. They include one son, Donald Collins (Sylvia); one daughter, Twila Collins Childers (Johnnie); 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Minnie Lee Collins, Mr. Collins is predeceased by three brothers; eight sisters; one son, Gene Collins and five infant children; one grandchild, “Duckie” Collins; and one great grandchild, Mitchell Cooper.
