Blythewood High School’s Cole Brown works on his hand-eye skills during a Bengals’ football practice earlier this month. The time for helmets and shorts has passed, and the full-pad workouts are winding down as the 2015 kickoff nears. The Bengals will get a final tune-up in a pair of jamborees this week – at Camden Friday, where they face Chapin at 6 p.m., and at Irmo Saturday, where they play the host Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m. The Westwood Redhawks, meanwhile, will also test themselves in Camden, facing the Bulldogs at 9 p.m. Friday. The ‘Hawks also take part in the Irmo jamboree at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Blythewood, Fairfield Central and Richard Winn Academy kick off their regular seasons next Friday, Aug. 21, while Westwood opens on Aug. 22. For a full preview of fall sports at all four schools, be sure to pick up The Voice’s 2015 Fall Sports Preview next week!
