Relay Teams Swim into Top 10

COLUMBIA – The Blythewood swim teams shattered school records in the 4A state swim meet Saturday, with the boys’ relay team notching top-10 finishes for the first time in school history.

In the 200 medley relay, Sean Bell, Ademar Cubero, Hayden Kasavicha and Matthew Owens broke their own school record by over 3 seconds to finish in a time of 1:42.67 and place 9th overall. The quartet earned a 10th overall finish in the 400 free relay, setting a new school record time of 3:25.89.

Kasavicha also swam a 2:02.42 in the 200 IM, beating his own school record by 2 seconds and placing 10th. Owens placed 34th in the boys’ 100 butterfly, with a season best time.

Bell placed 11th in the 100 freestyle in a new school record time of 50.38. In the 500 free, Kasavicha placed 14th overall, beating his own school record by over 8 seconds at 4:59.64. In the 100 backstroke, Bell placed 12th in a time of 56.97. Overall, the boys’ team placed 14th in the state meet.

Anna Ross competed in the girls’ 100 butterfly, beating her own school record and placing 16th overall. Ross also competed in the 500 freestyle where she earned 25th place.
