Raleigh B. Roberts

WINNSBORO – A memorial service for Raleigh Bryan Roberts Jr., will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at Sion Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Roberts died on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. Born in Winnsboro, he was the son of the late Raleigh Bryan Roberts (Red) and Sarah Stover Roberts (Bettie).

Mr. Roberts graduated from the Citadel and received his masters from Louisiana State University in Library Science. He started his career as a Reference Consultant for the South Carolina State Library Board in Columbia. He then moved to Queens, N.Y. and worked there until his retirement. He served as Adult Services Consultant, Reference Librarian, Assistant Branch Librarian and Assistant Coordinator of the Programs and Services Department for the fifth largest public library system in the United States. Mr. Roberts was an avid collector of books, film and music. He always enjoyed helping others learn to read, enjoyed playing the piano, and his dog.

Bryan is survived by many cousins including Amelia Patrick Ellison of White Oak and Mike Roberts of Winnsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Bryan’s memory to Sion Presbyterian Church, 116 W. Washington St., Winnsboro, S.C. 29180 or to the Fairfield County Library, 300 W. Washington St., Winnsboro, S.C. 29180.
