Westwood outmatched by champs

BLYTHEWOOD – The early winning ways of the Westwood Redhawks led them to an early 3-1 mark on season with wins over tough Blythewood and Chester teams, but Friday night they faced their most formidable task, the defending Region 5A State Champs, Dutch Fork. The Silver Foxes scored early and they scored often, en-route to a 67-7 beat down of the Redhawks.

Just 38 seconds into the game, Dutch Fork got on the board with wide-receiver-turned-running-back, Bryce Thompson. Thompson scored the game’s first touchdown on a 48-yard scamper to the end-zone, but he was far from done.

Quarterback Elijah Heatley (14) keeps the ball for himself in attempts to dodge the aggressive Silver Fox defense.

Even though Thompson would be removed from the game after the first quarter, he went on to score three more touchdowns. He found the big house on a two-yard run, a 10-yard run and a six-yard run, all coming in the Silver Foxes first four possessions of the game.

The game did not get any brighter for the Redhawks after Thompson was done with his scoring show. Down 28-0 going into the second, Westwood allowed another long touchdown run, this time a 43-yard score from backup running back Josue Paredes.

Dutch Fork’s defense decided they wanted to get in on the scoring action as well, and late in the second quarter Cameron Goines picked off an Elijah Heatley pass and took the interception 28 yards to the end-zone.

As if things could not get worse for the battered Redhawks, Dutch Fork found a way to put up more points before the end of the half. Paredes picked up his second rushing score of the night on a short one-yard charge, and with that the Silver Foxes took a 50-0 lead to halftime.

Westwood found their first bit of offensive success in the third quarter. Heatley and his productive receiver Christian Horn hooked up for a 39-yard score, but Dutch Fork answered back quickly.

Jon Hall responded less than two minutes later with the Silver Foxes’ seventh rushing touchdown of the game, a five-yard score. Dutch Fork put the bow on the win in the fourth quarter, adding 10 points to their already insurmountable lead with a 32-yard field goal and a three-yard Paredes touchdown.

Dutch Fork looks to put another Blythewood team down next when they come back into Blythewood to do battle with the Bengals.

Westwood looks to pick things back up next week on the road against Lancaster. The Bruins sit at 2-3 on the year, and have dropped three of their last four.
