Redhawk Volleyball makes history

BLYTHEWOOD – Last week, the Westwood Redhawks Lady’s Volleyball team notched a couple of firsts in the programs history. They hosted their first home playoff in school history against the North Augus-ta Yellow Jackets and sealed their first ever playoff win with a 3-1 victory.

The Redhawks looked shaky in the first set, and North Augusta cruised to an easy 25-11 open-ing set victory. It looked like nerves may have gotten the best of Westwood, but they bounced back with fury.

Westwood dominated the Yellow Jackets to the tune of 25-13 in the second set and brutalized them 25-8 in the third set. The final set was closer than the previous three, but the Redhawks were able to cap their first ever postseason victory with a 25-19 advantage in the fourth.

The second round proved to be much more difficult for the Redhawks, but they withstood the test. Westwood hopped out to a strong lead against Greenville, and it looked like they were going to cruise to an easy victory, but the Red-Raiders had other intentions.

Greenville was walloped 25-14 in the first set, then lost a competitive second set, 25-22, but  fought back and took down Westwood in the third and fourth set. The Redhawks sealed up their second playoff win ever with a narrow 16-14 edge in the tie-breaking fifth set.
