Westwood walloped by Stallions

BLYTHEWOOD – The Redhawks bounced back big last week with a close region win over the Lancaster Bruins. This week Westwood celebrated their homecoming, but across the field was the number seven-ranked team in the nation and regional opponent, South Pointe. The undefeated Stallions throttled the Redhawks 48-7, and with the loss Westwood dropped to 4-3 overall with a 1-1 regional record.

South Pointe has not lost a regional contest since 2013 and last year they took a 50-point win from Westwood. The scoring started early for South Pointe and the offensive fire-power did not stop coming all game.

Less than a couple of minutes into the game, Stallion running back Joe Ervin broke off a 22-yard touchdown and he struck again before the end of the first quarter with another eight-yard rushing score. After a quarter of play the Redhawks trailed 14-0.

Three minutes into the second quarter, the Stallion light-show began again, and they continued to pile on the points. Marice Whitlock opened the second with his 52-yard touchdown run, and Derion Kendrick kept up the Stallions’ lightning pace with his short three-yard touchdown scamper that put them up 28-0.

BT Potter split the uprights to give South Pointe the 31-0 advantage over Westwood, and things did not get better after returning from the locker rooms. The Stallion defense decided to take part in the scoring action with DeAngelo Huskey scooping up a Westwood fumble and took the Redhawks’ mistake 45 yards back to the big house for a 38-0 lead.

Scott Robinson Jr. hit Derion Kendrick later in quarter for a 38-yard touchdown, and BT Potter added to the 45-0 lead with his second field of the game, this time from 44 yards out. Westwood put up their only touchdown of the game near the end of the third, when Elijah Heatley found Cortes Braham for a 19-yard score.

Westwood has to go back on the road next week for yet another difficult region game at York.

York is 6-1 on the season, 2-0 in region play.
