MT. PLEASANT – The Blythewood Lady Tennis squad bolted through first two rounds of the State Region 5A playoffs against Stratford and Socastee, but the run came to an end in a tough match-up against the Wando Warriors. Wando took home 4-2 victory in the tight quarterfinal playoff match-up.
Erica Zippel led-off with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Abby Sinclaire to put the Bengals on the scoreboard first. Wando took a win back in matchup two when Kelsey Sinclaire got the best of Hannah Myers, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bengals jumped back ahead 2-1 after Sophie Carlton took out Emma Chadwick in a close match, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0. Wando tied it back at 2-2 in a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 Grace McKellar victory against Jordan Slagle.
Adelia Phillips gave Wando their first lead when she ousted Emma Horan 6-0, 3-6, 1-0. Blythewood needed a win in doubles to tie it up, but Wando’s Karson Powers and Ellie Zimmerman shut the door on the Bengals.
The Lady Bengals finished the season up with a 13-2 record.
