From the Pulpit: Don’t Let Thanksgiving End

The turkey has been carved to the bone. The mashed potatoes and gravy are gone. All but a few pieces of the pumpkin pie have been eaten. The leftovers are in the fridge. The family that has come to celebrate the holiday with us has been hugged, and they have gone back to their homes. As we reflect upon what has happened this Thanksgiving, our hearts are filled with warm memories and true appreciation.  It is a blessed feeling.

As Christians, we should not let those feels of appreciation and thankfulness end just because Thanksgiving is over. Truly, Thanksgiving should be celebrated every day of our lives! Above all people on the face of the earth, we who are children of God should have a warm feeling in our hearts and be thankful every day for all that God has given us.

We should be thankful God has given us physical life as well as spiritual life in Christ. We should be thankful for our physical family and our spiritual family too. We should be thankful for all the blessings He showers upon us, blessings that sometimes we don’t even deserve. Truly James was right when he said in in (1:17) of his epistle, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

My plea to each one of us is to not let Thanksgiving end! Let’s make every day a day of thanksgiving and praise to God for His goodness. Let’s strive to live up to the words of II Corinthians (4:15): “For all things are your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.” Yes, truly our thanksgiving toward God should abound to His glory in all things all the time!

May God bless each one of us as we seek to be thankful every day of our lives!
