From the Pulpit: Have You Ever Struggled in Your Faith?

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when your faith has been shaken somewhat either because of some traumatic event you had to deal with or because of some spiritual struggle you were battling on a continual basis? Yeah, me too. It’s called being human.

When those times occur, we truly want to reach out to God for help, but in our mind we somehow doubt He wants to listen to us because we fear that He is upset and disappointed in us due to our lack of faith. Surely at some point in time we have all had the thought that God doesn’t have the time nor the inclination to deal with us when we are weak and unworthy.

Nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, the writer of the book of Hebrews assures us that God wants to hear from us when we are struggling in our faith! Hebrews (4:15,16) says, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

If we are struggling in our faith, let us not compound our struggle by not seeking out the help we need to win the victory over the distresses, doubts, and disturbances we are facing. Instead, let us go to God in prayer. Let us pour out our hearts to Him knowing that He both understands and appreciates the struggles we have as we live in the flesh. Let us approach His throne knowing He desires to help us in our time of greatest need.
