WHS wrestling reaching new heights

BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood’s Raekwon Davis clinched the 126-pound Region 4-A Title at this weekend’s Regional Tournament, and in the process became only the second Redhawk in program history to notch 100 career victories.

Raekwon Davis celebrates his 100th career victory with coaches David Strait, Alex Garcia and Roscoe Powell.

Davis was one of three of Redhawks to bring back the designation of Region Champion. Brice Harkness locked down the top spot in the 160-pound division, and Sky Davis brought home the 152-pound crown. Davis was also named Region Wrestler of the Year.

Jeremiah Hightower was runner-up at 145, Tyvion Shannon did the same at 182 and Treshawn Miller followed suit as the runner up in the 195-pound division. Gabriel Smith took third at 138, and so did Josh Heyward at 170 and Phillip Hedrick at 220. Cedrick Brown clocked a solid fourth place finish at 106.

The Redhawks qualified 10 wrestlers for the Upper State Tournament, and for his work head coach, David Strait earned the honor of Co-Region Coach of the Year.

Upper State 4A Individuals will be held at Eastside High School Feb. 16 – 17.
