WHS racks up region awards

BLYTHEWOOD – Russell Jones Jr. and Unique Drake have earned the titles of Region 3-4A Players of the Year for their work in leading Westwood’s basketball teams to the most successful seasons in school history. Jones tallied 16.6 points, four assists, three rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. Drake racked up 21.5 points, 4.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game.

Teammates Kendall Wormack, Ta’jay Dunlap, Mya Belton and Nyah Leveretter were also selected to the All Region Team.

Dunlap, a junior, averaged 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assist and 2.3 steals per game. Wormack crashed the boards for 6.1 rebounds per game, and was particularly deadly from beyond the arc. He shot 50 percent from three-point land in region play.

Belton averaged 13.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.8 steals per game in her senior campaign. Leveretter, a sophomore, averaged 11 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.

Girls’ Head Coach Gregory Bauldrick was named Region Coach of the Year.
