Rec teams punch ticket for state

BLYTHEWOOD – The 2018 All-Star recreation season is in full swing, and the Blythewood Youth and Softball league have been well represented thus far. The T-Ball and Machine Pitch All-Stars have already clinched their spots in the State, and this week the Ozones were among the teams that joined the crowd.

The Minors opened district tournament play with a 22-1 beatdown against Pelion, and the Ozones inched by Pineview, 4-2, in their opening round matchup. The Ozones easily cruised, 18-1, through the second round against Cayce-West Columbia and brought home the crown in the district finale.

The Minors had to rally in the second round to knock off the Lexington Nationals, 8-6. They played another tight game in the third round, and this time they escaped with a 6-5 win over Cayce-West Columbia.

Blythewood’s 12U softball team suffered a tough 4-1 loss to Lancaster in their first contest, but bounced back and advanced to the championship play with an 8-7 victory in round two. They fell just short in their championship game against Kershaw, but still earned a spot in the state tourney.

The 8U and 10U teams both swept their way through their first two games to advance to a championship matchup. Lancaster got the best of the 10U Angels squad twice in the championship series, but like 12U, earned a spot in the state tournament field.

The 8U squad will meet up with Lancaster in the championship game.
