Bengals subdue Sumter

SUMTER – The Bengals faced Sumter on Monday. The game was tight early, but the Bengals exploded in the late to secure the win. Up 4-3 at the bottom of the sixth, the Bengals scored seven runs in the frame to leave Sumter with a 12-4 victory.

Landon Lucas started for the Bengals and pitched 3.2 innings, gave up three runs on seven hits, struck-out two and walked two. Alex Canino came on in relief and picked up the win. He tossed 2.1 innings and did not give up a hit, run or earned run. Josh Cowan closed for Blythewood.

Zach Bailes led the team with a double and three RBIS. Brady Beasley had two hits, including a double and a pair of RBIs. John Lanier drew two walks, knocked in a triple and also recorded a pair of RBIs. Jake Ladd also knocked in a pair of runs. Lucas and Cowan both finished with an RBI as well.

The win bumped the Bengals to 3-0 in Region 5-5A play. The Bengals hosted Sumter for game two of the three-game series on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. They wrap up the series in Sumter on Friday.
