WINNSBORO – After a long break, Eagle softball was back in action at home with a region game against Laurens Academy on Tuesday. The Eagles clinched a second place Region finish with a 19-4 win in just four innings.

Sophomore Meredith Pope took the mound and seated the first three batters she faced. Richard Winn bats blazed early, and the Eagles took a 8-0 lead after one.

The Crusaders managed three runs in the second compliments of a handful of Eagle fielding errors, but Richard Winn responded in the bottom of the frame with another four runs.

Another big offensive inning in the third gave the Eagles a 17-4 lead. They tacked on two more in the fourth to end the game at 19-4 via the 15-run mercy rule.

Pope picked up the win, striking out seven batters in four innings of work.

Richard Winn will honor softball seniors in their final home game of the season on May 7. They await SCISA 1A playoff tournament seeding. The two-day tournament runs May 11-12 with a three-game championship series following May 14-16.
