Ministry speaks to the heart, gives to community

WINNSBORO – Nestled in a little Winnsboro community known as Middle Six is a small white building with a charming sign advertising the Speak To My Heart Ministries Child Development Center.

Assistant Pastor, Minister Janet Nelums refers to it as a non-denominational church.

“We are a ministry on the move, and we are working to be a light in support of this community,” Nelums explained.

That light is going to shine brightly on Saturday, July 20, when the church hosts its first Community Giveaway Day.

Members of the community are invited to pick out clothes, kitchenware and other new or gently used items they might need. The items have been accumulated by the church’s parishioners to be given away.

Located at 253 Courtney Road in Winnsboro, the church will be open from 9 a.m. until noon on the day of the sale.

“There will be no selling,” emphasized Nelums. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Parishioner Helen Boulware, who assists Nelums with the giveaway program, said the Speak to My Heart Ministries Church is small in number of people who are working to be a help and a big part of their community. The church membership is currently just under 50 parishioners.

The current building and acreage was donated to the Church about four years ago, according to Nelums.

“We have about an acre and a half here, and we’re currently working to build a sanctuary on the property and, prayerfully, it will be up and going by the end of next year,” she said.

Nelums’ husband, Christopher, is the Church’s Pastor.

“As Pastor and Assistant Pastor, we feel God has planted us here to support the people of the area,” Janet Nelums said. “We want to help this generation get to a better place in life where they can achieve self- sufficiency.  We are a holistic church.  We deal with the physical needs as well as the spiritual needs.”

In addition to the Community Giveaway Day, Janet Nelums said the church also sponsors a community movie night, women’s Bible study group, political forums and a children’s summer feeding program.
