Redhawk girls beat River Bluff, Dreher; boys top Camden

COLUMBIA – The Westwood girls basketball team (5-2 overall, 3-0 Region 4-4A) cruised past River Bluff 65-25 in a non-Region 4-4A matchup Friday, then crushed Dreher 72-38 Tuesday at Dreher.

Malayziah Etheredge scored 23 points, and Makia Thompson and Korletta Daniels scored 13 points apiece against the Gators.

Etheredge had 21 points and 13 rebounds, Jessica Woods had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Thompson and TraShauna McCant had 11 points apiece in the region win over the Blue Devils.

The Westwood boys beat Camden 56-54  Thursday, with Arden Conyers and Mequaje McDaniels scoring 12 points apiece and Bryson Felder adding 11 points.

The boys (2-5, 0-2) did not play region opponent Lugoff-Elgin last week because of Covid. They were scheduled to take on Dreher Tuesday and Friday, but those games are also in Covid limbo because the Dreher boys team suspended all activity for two weeks beginning Jan. 11. The Redhawks played at Ridge View Wednesday night, but scores were not available at press time.

The girls play host to Dreher Friday. Both boys and girls play at home against Irmo Tuesday,
