WINNSBORO – After picking up a pair of senior night wins against Cambridge and Providence Athletic Club last Friday, the Eagles set their sights on a week full of region make-up games.

In Monday night’s matchup against Laurens Academy, the Lady Eagles started off strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Crusaders 12-2. The second quarter was more of the same, and the Eagles held a 26-7 lead at the halfway mark.

The Crusader offense ignited in the third, outscoring the Eagles 19-7. Still leading 33-26 heading into the fourth, the Eagles quickly put out the Crusader flame. Putting up 13 of their own in the final quarter, the Eagles held Laurens scoreless for a 46-26 final.

Senior Taylor Spires led Eagle scorers with 17 points. Spires also chipped in 10 rebounds, 6 steals, 2 assists and a block in the win. Meredith Pope had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists and a block on the night.

Lawson Wade (11)

The Eagle boys managed to trump the girls score with a 65-27 win of their own.

After a close first quarter, the Eagles headed into the second with a slight 20-14 lead. Twelve of Laurens’ 14 points in the first quarter came from behind the arc. The Eagle defense tightened in the second and held the Crusaders to only four points in the frame.

The 28-18 Eagle halftime lead grew to 42-26 in the third and exploded in the fourth as Richard Winn outscored the Crusaders 23-1 in the final period.

Sophomore Lawson Wade led the Eagle offense with 20 points, followed by senior Derek Branham with 12 points, 6 steals and 5 assists.

The Eagles faced Wardlaw on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. They will host King tonight and wrap up the week in Anderson on Friday.
