Bengal baseball gears up for season with LHS scrimmage

LEXINGTON – After a 7-2 win over Gilbert High School last Tuesday, Blythewood faced off with Lexington on Saturday for another preseason game.

Lexington went up early in the first with a solo homerun off the bat of Ryan Toll. Down by four headed into the fourth, Blythewood plated its first run of the game. After a lead-off double by Akex  Nevils, a Kevin Steelman groundout scored Justin White, courtesy runner for Nevils.

Lexington surged ahead in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 10-1 lead.

Blythewood rallied in, putting up one run in the sixth, three in the seventh, three in the eighth, and two more in the ninth and tenth innings.

The Bengals had five hits and two errors in the tie. Lexington finished with eleven hits and two errors.

Zac Cowan batted 3-6 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Ty Dooley, Brandon Hucks, Caleb McCants and Kevin Steelman all had an RBI. McCants also had two stolen bases.

Davis Wright pithced three innings for the Bengals, giving up six hits, four runs, two walks and striking one out. Cowan and Camden Watts each pitched two innings. Cowan allowed one hit, one walk and struck out four. Watts had one walk and three Ks. Jacob Hardy and Ben Blackwell each pitched an inning and change.
