Griffins hit season best times in Chapin

BYRNES – Fairfield Central’s Ericka Kelly competed in the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic Elite Invitational on April 23. Kelly placed 15th in the girls shot put finals at 29-6.

The Griffins competed in Chapin on April 21 against AC Flora, Airport, Chapin, Pelion and White Knoll high schools.

Sharmelle Holmes pulled two first place finishes for the Griffin girls – 200 meter dash (27.91) and in the 400 meter dash (1.01.60, her season best). Holmes also had a season best 12.62 finish in the 100 meter dash for fourth place.

Natalia Gray placed second in the 200 meter dish with a time of 28.44 and second in long jump at 15-1.5, her season best.

SaKira Hayes had season best runs in 800 meter (2:50.71) for fourth place, in 3200 meter (15:25.12) for third place and in 1600 meter (6:32.66) for sixth place.

Jamie Downs also had a season best time in the 3200 meter run for fourth place with a 15:40.02 finish.

Tamerra English also pulled two season best times in hurdles. She ran 18.36 for fourth place in the 100 meter hurdles and 1:34.35 for 14th place in the 400 meter hurdles.

Tanisha English finished fourth in high jump at 4-2 and had a season-best 11-7.75 score in long jump. 

Erick Kelly had a season best 72-1 in discus for sixth place and finished third in shot put at 30-11.

Teairra McDuffie also had season best times in 800 meter (3:28.27) and 1600 meter (7:55.43).

While the Griffin Boys did not have any first place finishers, they had a handful of season best times.

Jatron Woodard and Joshua Mosley both had second place finishes. Woodard finished second in 400 meter dash with a season best time of 53.45. Mosley’s second place finish was in 1600 meter run with a 4:48.55 time, also a season best. Mosley also had a season-best time in 800 meter (2:13.80) for third place finish and placed third in 3200 meter with a 10:42.14 final.

Donovan Watkins placed third in long jump with a season best 18-11. Stephon Gadsden placed fourth in 100m dash with a season best 11.46 final, and eighth in long jump at 17-3. Tydarion Grier pulled a fourth-place finish in the 200m dash with a 24.85 time. Grier placed eighth in 100m at 11.58.

Three Griffins finished in sixth place. Evelino Reyes-Hawes placed sixth in high jump at 5-2; Stepheno Gadsden placed sixth in long jump at 17-5; and Gerald Roach placed sixth in shot put at 37-9.5.

The Griffin boys 4x100m relay team placed third at 45.23 and the 4×800 relay team placed fourth at 11.29.69. The girls 4×800 relay team also placed fourth.

1600 meter run: Sidney Wilson (6:09.51) and Hemphill (6:29.95)

3200 meter run: Hank White (14:11.99) and Sidney Wilson (14:48.19)

Discus: Joseph Tolbert (86-0.5) and Steven Gadsden (82-1.5)

Shot Put: Steven Gadsden (27-8)

The Griffins were set to compete at Pelion on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time.
