Apply by Aug. 2 for FCSD Virtual Academy

FAIRFIELD COUNTY – Fairfield County School District announced in early March that it would launch a Virtual Academy option for students in the 2021-2022 school year.

“Many students have benefited from an online learning experience,” the press release said of the 2020-2021 school year, “and we look forward to providing this opportunity again next year.”

Students who attend the Virtual Academy will be expected to participate in live, synchronic instruction throughout normal school hours. Attendance will be taken daily in live sessions at scheduled times and work submissions. Not all courses are available virtually.

While students will be provided with a Chromebook, they need to have reliable and consistent internet access in the home to receive the full Virtual Academy experience.

Students who attend the Virtual Academy will be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities like sports and clubs at their designated school.

Parents who are interested in having their children attend school virtually are to complete an application on Parent Square or submit a paper application to the District Office or Gordon Odyssey Academy. A student must be approved for enrollment in Fairfield County School District before applying to the FCSD Virtual Academy.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, and the final date to withdraw any accepted student is Friday, Aug. 6.  Applications are available on the district website.

Students and families who are accepted must commit to one semester of virtual school, but can elect to return to traditional school at the end of the semester.

Selection for applications will be contingent upon the student’s virtual academic progress, attendance and compliance with program assurances that will optimize student success in a virtual environment.
