Michael Lyn Norris, Sr.

Michael Lyn Norris, Sr., 67, of Blythewood, died on Saturday, July 17, 2021. Born in Fürth, Germany, on June 20, 1954, he was a son of the late Joe B. and Estherlene Weaver Norris. Michael was a graduate of Spring Valley High School and spent his career with Hobart Corporation, Whirlpool and later Pontiac Foods. Michael loved working in his yard and garden and being outside. He was an avid hunter, scuba diver, racquetball player and outstanding marksman. He loved teaching handgun instruction. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearm Instructors, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Michael felt he “gave back” by volunteering as a bailiff for the West Columbia Courthouse, riding with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Forest Acres Police Department. The South Carolina Constable’s Association was very important to him as he honorably served the State of South Carolina. Michael was extremely committed to his family and friends. He held a deep love for everyone he met.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Edith “Jean” Jeter Norris; son, Michael “Mike” L. Norris, Jr. (Tonia); grandsons, Taylor Norris and Cameron J. Davis (Camille Smallwood-fiancé); granddaughter, Shelby Norris; brothers, Jeffrey D. Norris (Julie), Rick Peterson (Carol), Roland Schmitt (Birgit); sister, Joanna Norris (Randy); sister-in-law, Bonnie J. McManus; as well as host of extended family members and countless friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joey Norris, Sharon McAnally, Keith Norris, Timothy Norris and Kevin Norris.

The service for Michael will be held at 3 o’clock, Sunday, August 1st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating.
