Eagles XC kicks off season

GREAT FALLS – Richard Winn Cross Country opened their season on Sept. 8 at Great Falls High School. The Eagles competed against Gray Collegiate Academy, Riverwalk Academy, The SC Governor’s School, Hawthorne Christian Academy, Brookland Cayce, Lewisville and Great Falls.

The Eagle girls placed second out of five teams with a score of 63, just a few points behind first place Governor’s School with 57. The young Eagle team was highlighted by sixth-grader Ileanna Derrick, who finished in third place out of 46 runners with a time of 27:25.30. Derrick was followed by sixth-grader Harper Branham at 30:53.40 in 8th place overall. Sophomore Ella Grace Harrison placed 15th overall at 34:34.90. Hannah Britt finished at 34:52.90, Caitlyn Talbert at 37:41.40 and Haley Autry at 40:01.20.

With only three boys runners, the Eagles didn’t qualify for a team score. Seventh grader Noah Britt led the Eagle boys with a time of 29:22/70 for 57th out of 77 runners. Jackson Johnson finished with a time of 32:57.40 and Carson Taylor finished at 34:40.50.

Noah Britt represented the Eagles in Florence on Sept. 11 for the Melee at The Castle. He finished 83rd of 106 runners with a time of 23:24.60.

Up next, the Eagles will compete in Lancaster on Sept. 16.
