Griffins, Eagles run in Chester

CHESTER – Fairfield Central High School and Richard Winn Academy crossed the county line into Chester last Tuesday for a cross country meet at Chester High School.

The Griffin boys finished in second place of the 7 teams competing. With only three boys competing, Richard Winn’s times did not qualify for a team score.

Griffin standout Joshua Mosley topped the male field of 77 runners with a time of 18:05. Freshman Malachi Woodard finished second for Fairfield Central and in ninth place overall at 21:18.00. Following closely were senior Rylan Woodard at 21:34.00 for 12th place, eighth grader Sidney Wilson in 15th place with a time of 21:56, and freshman Hank White with a 16th place finish at 21:57.

Also running for the Griffins were Chaze Hemphill (28:26.00) and Krishi Patel (29:34.00).

Seventh grader Noah Britt led Richard Winn’s boys with a time of 25:45 in 39th place. Sixth grader Carson Taylor finished with a time of 35:05, and seventh grader Jackson Johnson finished at 38:28.

Richard Winn’s girls finished in third place out of 5 teams competing, and the Griffin girls finished in fourth.

Fifth grader Hayden Branham had the Eagle girls’ fastest time. Branham finished in third place at 23:19.00, just over a minute out of the first place spot. Branham was followed by ILeanna Derrick in fifth place at 24:04.00. Sixth grader Harper Branham finished 24th overall at 28:51.00; Caitlyn Talbert finished at 30:11.00; Hannah Britt finished at 32:15.00; Haley Autry had a final time of 37:36.00.

The Griffin girls were led by freshman Kensley Green, who finished in 8th place overall with a time of 23:26.00. Teairra McDuffie finished in 16th place at 26:35 and Kendis Green finished in 22nd at 27:28.00. Gianna Rhodes had a time of 29:43 for a 25th place finish; Maiya Sloss finished at 29:55 for 28th place; and Jamie Downs (30:34) finished in 31st place.

Mike Moore Lake Murray Invitational

Griffin runners competed in the 34-team Mike Moore Lake Murray Invitational at Crooked Creek Recreational Park on Saturday.

Mosley led the Griffin team again, this time to a 23rd place finish, with a time of 17:01.80 for a 21st place individual finish out of 274 runners. White finished at 19:09.19, Nygel Woodard at 19:10.26, Rylan Woodard at 20:02.11 and Wilson at 20:17.95. Malachi Woodard finished at 20:28.65.

Green again led the Fairfield girls. She finished at 23:59.53, followed by Downs (25:39.41), McDuffie (26.14.24), Kendis Green (28:24.08), Rhodes (28:25.27 and Maiya Sloss (28:26.81).

The Griffins will run again at Pelion on Sept. 29.

Lancaster Meet

Richard Winn followed their Chester meet with a meet at Lancaster on Sept. 16.

The Eagle girls were led again by Hayden Branham, who finished 4th overall of 40 runners with a time of 24:43.16. Derrick finished in 9th place at 26:46.20. Harper Branham had a time of 30:26.75. Also running for the Eagles were Hannah Britt (32.56.71), Caitlyn Talbert (34:00.62), Ella Grace Harrison (38:08.53) and Haley Autry (38:36.57).

Noah Britt finished first again for the Eagle boys with a time of 28:34.08. Johnson followed at 37:12.60 and Taylor at 37:15.49.

The Eagles will head to Chester again on Sept. 28.
