Blythewood, Winnsboro chefs bring home cook-off wins

WINNSBORO – Two local young chefs, Maci Pearl King, 8, of Winnsboro and Blythewood, and Dalton Bryant, 11, of Blythewood, won trophies and prizes over the weekend at an invitation-only BBQ cook-off in Monck’s Corner. The Southern BBQ Network (SNB) and Frankie’s Fun Park sponsored Kids-Q competition in conjunction with the Berkeley Lions Club.

The Kids-Q overall winner trophies are given to the top 3 Kids-Q competitors in memory of Dennis Jarrett (the Pot Belly Cookers).

Maci competed in the 6-10 year old category and finished in 2nd place. She took home a barbecue tool set in an aluminum case. Her age category was provided two pounds of ground beef to prepare. She choose to prepare stuffed bell peppers. Maci also finished 3rd overall in the Dennis Jarrett Spirit award.

Dalton competed in the 11-16 year old category and finished in 1st place, taking home a 36-inch grill for his prize. He prepared a pork tenderloin. Dalton also finished 1st in the overall Dennis Jarrett Spirit award.

Maci’s dad, George King finished 1st in the pork cook-off and 4th overall in the SBN/Berkeley Lions Club 25th annual cook off. 

The annual invitation-only cook-off is for teams who either won a grand championship in the qualifying year or finished in the top 15 of their points for the year.
