Mary Fay Hall

Mary Fay Hall died peacefully at her home in Little River, South Carolina on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, after a recent non-COVID related illness. She was surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren and is now dancing and rejoicing in heaven. She was 87.

Fay was born in Fairfield County, South Carolina on July 5, 1934, the daughter of the late Isaac Hall and Nora Peake Hall.

Fay grew up in Winnsboro, South Carolina, where she attended public school and played basketball for Greenbriar High School prior to her graduation. She married Herbert Willis Robertson in 1957 and after he completed his military service, the couple settled in Columbia, South Carolina, where their two children were born.

In 1961, Fay joined the staff of then Baptist Hospital as a cardiac technician. Through hard work, attention to detail, and an inquisitive mind, Fay rose through the ranks at Baptist and was promoted to the director of the EKG/EEG department.  Fay built a state of the art department which became one of the most efficient and profitable departments in the hospital.  She retired from Baptist Medical Center after 35 years of service in 1996.  In the early years of her retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel.

Fay moved to Little River, South Carolina in 2007 to be closer to her grandchildren.  With her sweet and funny personality, she soon had many friends in the area and she joined Trinity Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach.  In retirement at the beach, she enjoyed genealogy for herself and helping others with their family trees; she enjoyed a variety of games with friends (sometimes including the occasional wager-just for fun); the occasional trip to Cherokee, North Carolina; lots of time with her ever growing family; and activities with her Church.

Fay hated to go to the grocery store, did not like to cook, loved to dance, loved music, loved calm rainy days and loved the Lord. She spent a great deal of time with her Lord in prayer and she was a proud example of a Christian life of faith.  Beautiful, charming, kind and funny, Mary Fay Hall left the world a better place and lived for a purpose greater than herself.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Robertson Hembree (Greg); and son, Herbert Willis “Robbie” Robertson, III (Brent); grandchildren Nora Battle (James); Ellen Grooms (Stephen); John Isaac Hembree; and great-grandchildren Henry Battle; John Warner Battle; Anna Grooms; Eleanor “Birdie” Battle; and Sadie Grooms.  In addition to her parents, her brother, Clarence Hall, and her sister, Francis Commalander, predeceased her.

A visitation is scheduled from 4:00 until 6:00pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Lee Funeral Home in Little River.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Trinity Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach with Reverend Michael Ritter officiating.

The family request that any memorials be made to the local charity of your choice.
