Jerry Bernard Nixon

Jerry Bernard Nixon passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022.  Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Ira and Louise Pike Nixon.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Gunter Nixon and his beloved son William.  He also leaves behind a brother-in-law whom he loved dearly, Keith Gunter.

Jerry was a member of Ridgeway First Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 45 years.  He was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran with many several metals including the Bronze Star.  Jerry was a foster parent for 12 years and formed with his wife the first Foster Parents Association in Fairfield County with Jerry serving as its first President.

He loved his Gamecocks and loved watching them play.  He fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s.  He never complained about the toll it was taking on his mind and body.  He endured with dignity and grace.  Jerry never had an unkind word to say about anyone.  He was loved very much and will be missed greatly.

Graveside services will be held at 11 o’clock AM Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Aimwell Cemetery in Ridgeway, SC.  Due to Covid, there will be no visitation and the residence.  For everyone’s safety, social distancing will be implemented, and masks are required.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
