Griffins compete in Coaches Classic

COLUMBIA – Familiar Griffin names are sprinkled among the top-ten in results from the 2022 Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic. Twenty-six area teams competed in the Region 4 Classic at Spring valley on Saturday. Griffins Sharmelle Holmes, Tanisha English, Tamerra English, Joshua Mosley and Jai Boyd all placed in the top ten of their respective finals.

Holmes placed second in the 100m dash finals with a season-high 11.96 time, fourth in the 200m dash finals at 25.18, also a season best, and fourth in long jump at 16-7. Tanisha English placed sixth in javenin with a season-best 68-10. Tamerra English placed tenth in javelin at 62-9.

The Griffin girls’ 4×100 relay team had a season-high time of 52.16 for eighth place.

Griffin distance standout Mosley placed fourth in the 3200m run with a season-high time of 10:07.02. Boyd also had a season best with in long jump at 20-6.5 for fifth place overall.

The Griffin boys’ 4×800 relay team placed ninth with a time of 9.31.52.

Fairfield’s teams competed in a meet at Lower Richland on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. They are scheduled for Columbia International University’s Rams/Falcons High School Invitational on Saturday. The meet will begin with high jump at 9 a.m.
