Griffins drop two games

WINNSBORO – After falling 13-3 to Chester last Tuesday, the Griffins faced off with the Cyclones in Chester on Friday with a similar result.

The Griffins took an early 2-1 lead, which they held until the top of the fourth inning when they went up 4-1. The Cyclones responded with three runs to tie the game at 4, then held Fairfield scoreless for the remainder of the game while they tallied eight more runs for a 12-4 final.

At the plate, the Griffins were led by Madisen Belton, who had two hits in three appearances, Sierra Worthy with a double and Jamya Kennedy with a homerun.

Vicki Pete took the loss. She worked a complete game, facing 38 batters, allowing 13 hits and 12 runs. She struck out five and walked three.

Fairfield added another loss to the column after another tough opponent on Tuesday. The Griffins struggled to contain the high-powered Mid-Carolina Offense, giving up 24 runs in just four innings.

Amaria Jones took the loss on the mound for Fairfield. She allowed 16 hits and 24 runs in four innings of work. She struck out one.

Melody Belton, Madisen Belton, Nevaeh Sease, Kennedy Belton, Calaysia Rice and Pete each had a hit in the loss.

Fairfield is set to travel to Mid-Carolina on Friday and will face Newberry and Great Falls in away games next week before Spring Break.
