Westwood, Blythewood wrestlers finish strong in individual tourney

ANDERSON – Westwood senior Drake Lesher, wrestling in the 195-pound weight class, finished in second to a Greenwood wrestler at the 4A individual state meet. Lesher defeated a West Florence opponent in the quarterfinal and won his semifinal match against South Florence by a second round pin. 

“I’m am so proud of this young man and his hard work, dedication, and leadership this season,” Westwood coach Lenard Hudnal said on Twitter following the championship match.

Blythewood senior Eric Montgomery, wrestling in the 170-pound weight class finished in third and Bengal senior Matt Clack (126) finished fourth in the 5A individual state championship meet at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center Friday and Saturday.

Montgomery finishes the season with a 41-8 record and closes out his high school wrestling career with 98 wins. He is a 3-time All-Region 4-5A wrestler.

Clack closes out the season 43-2, and has 107 career wins. Clack sustained a head injury in the early wins, but battled back in the consolation rounds to make the finals. He was ruled out medically, but finishes as Blythewood’s all-time career wins leader, all-time wins leader, and the only wrestler in Blythewood’s history to be a 2-time Wrestler of the Year, a North-South All Star, a 2-time Region champion.
