Redhawks finish 2nd in state

COLUMBIA – Westwood’s girls track and field teams made the most of their time at Spring Valley’s Harry Parone Stadium Saturday night.

On Saturday, while Greenville took home 4 gold medals and 11 top-3 finishes overall and won the 4A state championship with 102 points, Westwood won 5 gold medals and had 7 top-three finishes to put up 79.5 points and claim the state runner-up spot.

On Saturday, Westwood junior Brianna Rodriguez took home four gold medals as she led her team to a runner-up spot.

Rodriguez was named the 4A track athlete of the year with wins in the 200-meter dash, the 100 hurdles, the 400 hurdles, and her role in the Redhawks’ 4 x 400 relay win.

Rodriguez took gold in the 200 dash with a time of 24.63. Greenville’s Robinson and Keniya Walker took second and third in that event. She won the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.20, and won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.81.

The 4×400 team finished ahead of Greenville with a time of 3:54.57.

Junior Ticora Gaskin took gold in the girls long jump with an effort of 18- 02.00. She finished second theh 100 meter dash behind Greenville’s Bre’Asia Robinson’s 11.84 seconds with a time of 12.09. She also finished 7th in the 200 dash with a time of 25.45.

Among other Westwood finishers, Kennedy Rivers took third in the 400 dash with a time of 58.07, and fourth in the 200 dash with a time of 25.36. The 4×100 team finished fifth with a time of 3:54.57

Thanna Davis finished 7th in the 400 dash with a time of 59.89. Emma Ashley finished seventh in the girls 1600 run with a time of 5:22.33. Harper Ramsdale finished 8th in the pole vault with a mark of 9-00.00

The Westwood boys’ 4×400 team took gold with a time of 3:21.79. The 4×800 team took fifth with a time of 8:22.90.

Noah Jennings took fifth in the long jump with an attempt of 21-07.25.

Dominic Young took fifth in the 400 dash with a time of 50.33. William Tyndall took fifth in the 800 run with the time of 2:00.82. Jonathan Backstrom took eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.93.
