Bengal Tennis claims share of region title

BLYTHEWOOD – With a big Monday night 4-2 win over Clover High School in their final region match of the season, Blythewood tennis clinched, at minimum, a share of the 5A Region 3 title.

Last Thursday, the Bengals took to Spring Valley for their second region match in a three-game stretch. Blythewood persevered over a tough Spring Valley team to win a close 4-2 match. Blythewood’s senior doubles team fought back from a set down, and down 5-8 in the tie breaker to win 11-9 to seal the match.

The Bengals celebrated their senior athletes on Oct. 4 with a 6-0 win over Rock Hill.

With their share of the region title in hand and still with two matches to play, the Bengals traveled to Dreher on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. The will host Brooklyn-Cayce on Oct. 17 for their final home match of the regular season.

The win over Clover improves Blythewood to 9-1 in the region. Nation Ford defeated Clover on Tuesday to secure the #1 seed for the SCHSL 5A State playoffs. Blythewood will be seeded second out of the region. State playoffs will begin on Oct. 20; Blythewood will play at home.
