Above, the club’s president Arthur Lathan welcomed the Rotary’s lone Jewish member, Henry Nechimia, to present a program about some of the Jewish traditions centered around Hanukkah.
At right, Nechima, who was born in a Bronx Jewish community and now oversees the county’s railroad museum on Highway 34 near the bypass, demonstrated the menorah, a candelabrum used in Jewish worship, especially one with eight branches and a central socket used at Hanukkah. He also spoke a prayer in Yiddish and talked about other Jewish traditions.
