Rotary Welcomes Nechimia

WINNSBORO – The Winnsboro Rotary Club held its annual holiday meeting on Tues., Dec. 20, and invited guests to attend and share in the club’s holiday spirit.

Above, the club’s president Arthur Lathan welcomed the Rotary’s lone Jewish member, Henry Nechimia, to present a program about some of the Jewish traditions centered around Hanukkah.

At right, Nechima, who was born in a Bronx Jewish community and now oversees the county’s railroad museum on Highway 34 near the bypass, demonstrated the menorah, a candelabrum used in Jewish worship, especially one with eight branches and a central socket used at Hanukkah. He also spoke a prayer in Yiddish and talked about other Jewish traditions.
