Seven Bengal seniors ink collegiate plans

BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School recognized seven members of the Class of 2023 Wednesday who have committed to continuing their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The seven student-athletes celebrated National Signing Day by announcing their college plans. The athletes represented the football, track, lacrosse, volleyball, and golf programs.

Hailey Duncan, daughter of Rodney and Latanza Duncan, announced her commitment to continue her track career at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Duncan is a sprinter for head coach Aleshia Taylor at Blythewood High School. Duncan won a State Championship in 2022 as a member of the Bengals’ 4×100 relay team. Duncan has earned All-Region, All-State, and All-American honors in her time as a Bengal.

Krista Edwards, daughter of Chris and Sharri Edwards, announced her intention to continue her volleyball career at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Edwards was a middle and outside hitter for head coach Mary Hall at Blythewood. Edwards twice earned All-Region honors and was named a North-South All- Star player in 2022. Edwards is also an Honor Roll student at Blythewood.

Brianna Huff, daughter of Joe Singh and Melanie Goodwin, announced her commitment to continue her lacrosse career at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Huff is a defender for head coach Margaret Woodruff at Blythewood. Huff is a two-year captain for the Bengals and will anchor the defense for her upcoming senior campaign.

Ella Stalvey, daughter of Ryan and Nicole Stalvey, announced her intention to continue her golf career at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Stalvey is a two-time State Champion for head coach Jason Minkel at Blythewood. Stalvey earned six varsity letters in her high school career, starting in her seventh grade year of school, earning All-Region honors each of the six years. Stalvey earned All-State honors each of the last four years, helping lead the Bengals to two State Championship titles.

Anthony Thurman, son of Clarence and Helen Lovick, announced his intention to continue his football career at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Thurman, a tight end for head coach Jason Seidel at Blythe- wood, helped lead the Bengals to their first Region Championship in nine years. Thurman earned All-Region and All-State honors his senior year and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach this past December.

DJ Tyler, son of Marquita Jackson, announced his commitment to continue his football career at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Tyler, a wide receiver for head coach Jason Seidel at Blythewood, helped lead the Bengals to their first Region Championship in nine years. Tyler earned All-Region and All-State honors his senior year. Tyler set a school record for the longest touchdown reception with a 97-yard touchdown catch his senior year.

Arianna Williams, daughter of Gregory and Jenne Williams, announced her intention to continue her track career at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Williams is a sprinter for head coach Aleshia Taylor at Blythewood High School. Williams has won been crowned a State Champion three times heading into her senior year as a Bengal, making her one of the most decorated athletes in school history. Williams won the 400-meter race in 2021 and was a member of the champion 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams in 2022. Williams has earned All-Region, All-State, and All-American honors in her career.
