BLYTHEWOOD – Earlier this month, Blythewood Youth Baseball and Softball League (BYBSL) officially renamed Field 1 at Blythewood Park in memory of League coach and parent Bradley Oates. Oates passed away at the age of 48 after a long battle with colon cancer.

In a post on Facebook, the League described Oates’ passion for BYBSL. In addition to coaching teams as his son progressed through the League, Oates served as the Director of T-Ball.

“He touched the lives of many in his all too short time with us,” the post stated. “We are privileged to hang this sign in recognition of his contribution to our league and to our lives.”

Pictured above, Oates’ wife, Anna, with their children Sam and Anna Bradley following Anna Bradley’s first game in the league, which was played in the Wee Ball Division with the Marlins, fittingly, on the field named after her father. In addition to playing travel baseball, Sam plays in BYBSL for the Astros this season.

The League’s post also includes a reminder that March is Colon Cancer Awareness month and made a plea for all to make an effort to bring awareness to colon cancer.
