Eagles extend streak to 14

ROCK HILL – In their first seven-inning game since March 14, Richard Winn baseball found a more for-midable opponent in York Prep than their previous six games.

The Eagles took a 2-0 win over York Prep on Monday, narrowly keeping their undefeated record intact.

With veteran right-hander Landon Caulder on the mound for the Eagles in a defensive duel, both teams remained scoreless through three innings.

Rob Wilson ignited the Eagle offense with a one-out single to left field. Caulder walked to put runners on first and second. Anthony Armstrong singled to center to load the bases for the Eagles. Connor Lit-tle grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Wilson and leave two runners in scoring position. A strikeout ended the inning.

The Eagles added another run in the top of the sixth, courtesy of a lead-off homer to center off the bat of Wilson. 

The scoreboard would remain 2-0 through the bottom of the seventh.

Wilson led the offense, batting 2-3 with a homerun. Little tallied the team’s second RBI.

Caulder worked all seven innings. He faced 26 batters, struck out four and walked two. He allowed six hits in the Eagles’ shutout of the Patriots.

Win 14 was a more challenging one than the two leading up to York Prep.

The Eagles obliterated Oconee Christian 22-0 in four innings on March 31. Nineteen of the 22 runs came in the top of the fourth.

Second baseman Jacob Chaisson batted 4-4 with 3 RBIs in the win. Charlie Bonds batted 3-5 with 4 RBIs. Caulder also had four RBIs. He went 2-3. Miller Stuck (3), Lawson Wade (2), Little (2), Wilson (1), Landon Smith (1) and Grant Brown (1) all had RBIs in the win.

Chaisson, Bonds, Caulder and Wilson all doubled.

Stuck led from the mound. He faced 14 batters, struck out three and allowed only two hits in the shut-out.

The win advanced the Eagles to 6-0 in region play.

The Eagles took a 14-4 win over Great Falls on March 30 in six innings.

Wilson faced 30 batters in six innings of work. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed four hits and four runs.

He led the Eagles from the plate, batting 3-4 with two homeruns a double and three RBIs. Charlie Bonds also had three RBIs and a homerun. Chassion and Stuck both tripled with 2 RBIs in the win; Little added a double and an RBI.

Following Monday’s win over York Prep, the Eagles face some down time before hosting Great Falls on April 10 at 6 p.m. They’ll travel across town to Fairfield Central for a 1 p.m. game on Tuesday, April 11. Fairfield Central defeated York Prep 7-6 earlier this season.
