WHS softball tops Ridge View

BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood softball team fell to Lugoff-Elgin 11-2 Thursday, but closed out a 3-1 home victory over Ridge View Tuesday night.

Against the Demons, Jada McConnell went 3-4 with a double and an RBI, but Lugoff-Elgin scored six runs in the fifth inning to go up 9-0. Westwood got their two runs in the bottom of the sixth, after the Demons added a run in the top of that frame.

Westwood committed 11 errors as Makayla Drakeford took the loss in the circle. She worked a complete game and gave up 11 runs, but only three were earned.
The Blazers led 1-0 after three innings Tuesday night. The Redhawks got two runs on one hit and three Ridge View errors in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. With one out, McConnell bunted and reached on an infield error, but was caught trying to steal second base for the second out. Izzy Ridgeway reached base on a first baseman’s error, and courtesy runner Reagan Remia took second on Marguerite Ridgeway’s single.

Both Remia and Ridgeway scored when the Blazers’ second basemen misfielded Tracie Harris’ ground ball. Harris took third on the play, but Drakeford grounded out to end the inning.

Azaria Belton smacked a 2-out triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, and scored on Anna Graves’ single.

The Redhawks (7-5-1, 2-3 Region 5-4A) play at Ridge View tonight and after spring break will travel to Irmo April 18.
