RW Volleyball returns to court

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn volleyball’s season is well underway. After ending their season in the semi-finals of the 2022 SCISA A tournament, the veteran roster returns five seniors to the 2023 team under direction of new head coach Kim Meadows.

The Eagles got in some preseason action at the annual Newberry Academy Jamboree on August 12. They faced region-foe Wardlaw Academy and SCISA Class 3A Greenwood Christian; both games ended in 1-1 ties.

The Eagles easily managed their opponents in the first week of the regular season with 3-0 wins. Diving straight in to region play, they hit the road to open their season on Tuesday, Aug. 15 against Anderson Christian. The Eagles returned to Winnsboro to host Oconee Christian Academy on Thursday, Aug. 17. They defeated OCA 25-17, 25-7 and 25-14.

The Eagles came across region-foe and defending SCISA A State Champion Laurens Academy on Tuesday. Laurens, which returned all of their championship roster, defeated the Eagles 3-0. The loss drops the Eagles to 2-1 on the season.

They return to action with a three-game stretch next week, all on their home court. They’ll host WW King Academy on Monday for a region game, then Great Falls on Tuesday, and round out the week with another region bout against Newberry Academy.
