Bengals fall to Nation Ford

BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood quarterback Harrison Collins worked the Bengals down the field in the closing seconds of their game against Nation Ford Friday night at District Two Stadium.

Down 34-28, Blythewood needed a touchdown and an extra-point to pull out a second Region 3-5A victory. On the final play of the game, Collins connected with Trent Lewis in the back end of the end zone for a game-tying touchdown pass, but the play was called back due to an ineligible player downfield.

Blythewood tried for the end zone one more time, but the ball fell to the turf and the game ended with the Falcons winning 34-28.

Collins tied the game at 28 with a one-yard touchdown plunge with 7:09 left, but Nation Ford’s Caleb White ran the ball in from 18 yards out with 48 seconds left. The Falcons (3-4, 1-1) missed the extra point.

Blythewood (3-4, 1-1) had one more opportunity, with one time out left. After the kickoff and a penalty put the Bengals at the Nation Ford 49-yard line, Blythewood moved up to the 11 for the final play of regulation.

Collins had two touchdown passes to Kaleb Kelly. He also ran for two TDs.

Blythewood travels to Clover (5-2, 2-0) Friday. The Blue Eagles shut out Spring Valley 48-0 Friday and shut out Nation Ford in its region opener Sept. 29.

Nation Ford is at Rock Hill (4-3, 2-0) Friday.
