Eagle volleyball notches 4th win in a row

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn Volleyball tallied their fourth win in a row with a 3-0 defeat of Oconee Christian Academy on Monday. With only three region losses this season, the Eagles currently hold third place in SCISA A Region I.

The Eagles’ win over Oconee came on the heels of 3-0 wins against King Academy and Our Lady of the Rosary last week. Richard Winn also defeated Wardlaw Academy in a tight 3-2 game last Monday.

Seniors Brinson Baker and Lila Smith led the Eagles in kills in their three-game stretch last week. Smith tallied 28 kills and Baker had 26. Senior Meagan Brigman had 12 kills on the week; Delaney Young, also a senior, had 10.

Baker also tallied 24 aces, 39 assists and 31 digs during the week. Smith had 62 digs, 42 assists and 13 aces. Brigman had 57 digs, 12 aces and five blocks in the wins. Young had a team-high 15 digs in the win over Our Lady of the Rosary. Freshman libero Sarah Hughes had a combined 38 digs last week.

With only three games remaining in regular season play, the Eagles look to solidify their region finish with a win tonight at Newberry Academy. They’ll travel to Greenville to take on Our Lady of the Rosary next Tuesday, then will battle for second place with Cambridge Academy next Thursday for their final home game of the season.
