Griffins fall to Keenan

COLUMBIA – Fairfield Central’s basketball teams will close out regular season play at home tonight against a tough Keenan opponent.

The Griffins traveled to Keenan on Tuesday for their first meeting of the season, and the Raiders took wins in both contests.

The Griffin girls fell with a 51-79 final to the Raiders. The boys lost by a 37-50 margin.

The losses come on the heels of Friday night’s losses on the road at Eau Claire.

The boys team fell to Eau Claire 58-42. The Griffin girls led by one after a quarter of play, but Eau Claire overpowered Fairfield in the second quarter to take a 33-23 lead into halftime. They held on for an 11 point win over the Griffins.

Junior Jordyn Adams put up a big stat line in the loss to Eau Claire. She had 20 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Freshmen Jazzlyn McMillan and Tamia Evans had nine points each.

As the season ends, the Griffin girls look hold third place in region standings. Their third place finish is good enough for a SCHSL 2A state playoff bid. They will enter the first round of the upper state playoffs on Feb. 14.

Both Keenan teams currently sit in second place in the region, behind only Gray Collegiate Academy. Gray leads both boys and girls’ regions with 8-0 records, all wins from forfeits.

The Griffin girls (11-11) will tip-off tonight at 6:30 p.m. The boys will follow.
