A Roar for MaryGail and Bill

WINNSBORO – Paul Dove, second from left, president of the Winnsboro Lions Club, presented plaques to two club members who were honored at the club’s April meeting.

MaryGail Douglas, left, and Bill Haslett, second from right, were named Melvin Jones Fellows, a recognition named for the man who founded the Lions Club in 1917. Douglas and Haslett become the seventeenth and eighteenth Melvin Jones Fellows of the Winnsboro Lions Club.

The fellowship recognizes superlative support of and dedication to the Club’s motto: “We Serve.” Lions 32-S District Governor Linda Rumsey, right, from Greer, assisted in the presentations.

Douglas became the first female Winnsboro Lion in 1996. Haslett led the efforts to establish the World War II memorial here in Winnsboro, which gave the club international publicity for this service project.
