BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood softball team split a double header with nonregion opponent Mid-Carolina Friday, then whipped Region 5-4A rival Ridge View Monday and fell 1-0 to Irmo Tuesday.
The Redhawks (8-9, 2-4) Beat Mid-Carolina 8-7 in eight innings in Friday’s first game, then fell 6-5 in five innings in the nightcap. Marguerite Ridgeway and Makayla Drakeford homered and Anna Graves doubled. Drakeford worked a complete-game 4-hitter in the circle, striking out 16.
Ella Griffin had two hits in the second game.
Against Ridge View, Izzy Ridgeway got the win in the circle, giving up three hits and striking out one. She also doubled and tripled. Taylor Blevins hit two doubles. Marguerite Ridgeway and Jada McConnell had two hits and two RBI.
Against Irmo, Drakeford pitched a complete-game 2-hitter and struck out 11, and Tracie Harris doubled, but the Redhawks fell 1-0 to the Yellow Jackets.
The only run of the game came in the third inning with two outs. Addie Broughton led off the inning with a walk, moved to second on Hannah Jones’ sacrifice bunt, moved to third on E.G. Caley’s single, and scored when Precious Bross reached on an error.
Westwood visits Irmo Thursday.
