ORANGEBURG – Westwood baseball team (7-8, 1-4) fell 17-7 at Orangeburg-Wilkinson April 3, but got its first Region 5-4A victory of the season with a 12-7 win over Ridge View Tuesday night.
Xavier Johnson led the Redhawks over Ridge View with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, with a double and three RBI. Nathan Caldwell was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Redhawks play host to the Blazers Thursday.

Westwood Softball
COLUMBIA – The Westwood softball team (7-8, 1-4) also got its first region victory at Ridge View Tuesday with a 17-2 victory in six innings.
Makayla Drakeford went 3-of-4 with a double, Marguerite Ridgeway went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, and Jada McConnell went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Redhawks.
Drakeford pitched a full six innings, scattering five hits and striking out 11. Ridge View’s only runs came from Tyra Robinson, who hit a solo home run, and tripled and scored a run.
The Redhawks play host to the Blazers Thursday.
