Mrs. Patricia Driver Hood, 74, of Blythewood, SC, died Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was the widow of Mr. Barry L. Hood whom she was married to for 35 years until his death in 2006. In their loving marriage they had one child, Tonya L. Hood.
Pat was born to the late Mr. Johnnie A. Driver and Mrs. Dillie Bailey Driver on July 21, 1949 in Bailey, NC. Her parents died shortly after her birth and she was raised in the Free Will Baptist Childrens Home in Middlesex, NC. She called Mr. Joe and Mrs. Martha Bertram “Mom and Dad” as they filled the role of parents in her life. She enjoyed sports, gardening, and her precious hummingbirds that visited every spring.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her hospice team, Stanley Harris, Venus Hughes, and Chris Hix for their outstanding end of life care. Also, special thanks is given to Nora Claytor, Anne Henley, and Abby Kinard for their help and support they provided the family.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya L. Hood; niece, Sue Lamm; nephew, Michael Joyner (Heather); numerous great nieces and nephews; her best friends, Darlene Rust, Collette Turnipseed, Debra Collie, and Deborah Johnson; and many friends that called her “Mama Peach” who were considered family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Barry LeGree Hood; sister, Mildred Driver Joyner, and niece, Helen “Lucy” Joyner.
The memorial service will be held Thursday, May 2, at 3 o’clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27577.
