BLYTHEWOOD – Mayor Sloan Griffin issued an Executive Order Tuesday morning to announce that town hall would be closing Tuesday at noon.
It was the second Executive Order he has issued in 11 days. Thursday’s Order was Executive Order No. 2, a formal announcement that town hall’s closure was due to the possibility of inclement weather.
The Order states:
“Whereas the Town of Blythewood is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents, employees, and visitors; and
WHEREAS, current weather conditions present hazardous circumstances, including potential risks to travel and operations; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to take proactive measures to safeguard the public and maintain the integrity of essential services;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sloan Jarvis Griffin III, Mayor of the Town of Blythewood, by the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of South Carolina and the Town of Blythewood, do hereby order:
Closure of Town Hall and Services: Effective immediately, all Town Hall operations and services will close at 12 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2025.
Employee Instructions: Town employees are instructed to leave their workplaces in an orderly manner no later than 12 p.m. unless authorized. Essential personnel required to respond to the weather emergency should remain standby.
Public Notice: The Social Media Department is directed to ensure that this order is communicated promptly to the public through all available channels, including the Town’s website, social media platforms, and local media outlets.
Resumption of Services: A decision regarding the resumption of regular operations will be communicated once weather conditions improve and are deemed safe for travel and work.
This order is issued in the interest of employee safety and will remain in effect until rescinded or modified by further notice.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Town of Blythewood to be affixed this 21st day of January, 2025.”
Griffin had previously issued Executive Order No. 1 on Jan. 10, also announcing a half-day closing of town hall as the result of a forecast for possible inclement weather.
“I will be issuing other executive orders in the future,” Griffin told The Voice. “They will be bound into a book for the public to be able to see upon request.”
At 11:47 on Tuesday night, Griffin posted a notice extending the Tuesday closing through Wednesday. A note on the Town’s website states: Please stay tuned for updates as we monitor the weather.
