It’s the new year and I want start off by thanking county council members for all their efforts for Fairfield residents.
But I also want to remind you what Job One is for the coming year. You must hire the very best county administrator – a new, smart, experienced, hard-working administrator with a heart for what Fairfield residents need.
We have had three county administrators, three interim county administrators and one co-administrator – that’s seven people at the top since 2021.
What did that manifest for the county and its people? It manifested uneasiness, high employee turnover, inconsistency in governance, and that’s not all.
We have a 30 percent higher unemployment rate than the state average.
At last count, only 51 percent of our population was actually earning a living with a job.
Our county cannot be sustained with this. And the reason that number is so low is because our government is not offering our people opportunities.
We’re losing our youth. They’re going elsewhere for jobs and opportunities. The only way we can move on from this last two years is to ensure that we’ve done our due diligence in finding a dynamic new administrator.
We’ve proven that these seven people at the top since 2021 have not gotten the job done. When we lose an administrator after only four days that goes back to the hiring process.
We must find a highly qualified administrator who is not afraid to get good results.
