Letter: Animal Habitats are Being Destroyed

Hello, my name is Benjamin Robertson, and I’m a Star Rank Scout in Boy Scout Troop 737 of the Indian Waters Council. I’m writing to you for Communication Merit Badge requirement 7A, “Write to the editor of a magazine or your local newspaper to express your opinion or share information on any subject you choose. Send your message by fax, email or regular mail.”

I’d like to express my opinion on the construction of the Scout Motors plant here in Blythewood.

I live in Blythewood; in fact, my house is separated from the plant by a little over a mile of woods, and it’s been making me feel upset about the plant being built.

I understand that the plant can bring in lots of jobs but as a youth who enjoys the outdoors it’s horrible to see that area destroyed just to build an electric vehicle plant. I know I can’t do anything about it, but I just don’t like knowing they’re deforesting that large area.

The only plus side beside the jobs that I see is that it’s pushing all the wildlife onto our property. Then again, if it’s pushing all the wildlife away. It can and probably will/has increased the amount of roadkill on the roads or coyotes in neighborhoods. I love Blythewood, and I want it to thrive but I feel like the Scout plant is slowly killing the area with the destruction of habitats it’s bringing.

Anyways that’s all I wanted to talk to you about.
