Sherman leaves BHS for district leadership role

BLYTHEWOOD – After spending almost two decades at Blythewood High School, including the last six years as principal, Matt Sherman is leaving to serve as Executive Director of Student Services for Richland School District Two.

A press release issued Monday by the district said Sherman, in his new role, “will be responsible for a wide range of support for students, including the Registrar’s office, Family Intervention Services, Student Services, District Athletics, Health Services, and Social Work Services. He will work collaboratively with administrators and support staff to ensure every child in the district has access to the resources, programs, and opportunities they need to excel academically, socially, and emotionally, His leadership will help create the sparks that ignite student success and well-being across Richland Two.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Matt Sherman to this critical leadership role,” said Superintendent Dr. Kim D. Moore. “His proven track record of building strong, inclusive communities and his unwavering commitment to student success make him the ideal leader for our Student Services team. We look forward to the positive impact he will continue to make across Richland School District Two.”

In a letter to BHS parents on May 28, Sherman shared what he called, “an exciting new chapter in my journey within Richland School District Two”. Sherman said the new opportunity fills him with pride and anticipation.

“Leaving my daily role at Bengal Nation is undoubtedly bittersweet,” he wrote. “My heart will always belong here, with this incredible school community that has meant so much to me…

“To our students, staff, and families – thank you! Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your unwavering support. You have shaped my leadership, enriched my life, and embraced the Sherman family as your own. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as your principal, and I am proud of all that we have built together: a culture of excellence, compassion and unity that defines what it means to be a Bengal.

“Though I am stepping into a new role, I do so with the commitment to carry the spirit of Bengal Nation into every school and every corner of our district. I am excited to help foster across Richland Two the same sense of belonging and purpose that we have nurtured here,” he wrote. He said he is confident that the school’s next leader will inherit a remarkable school community ready for continued success. He thanked the students, staff and teachers for their love, memories, and support.

“I will always be 1 Proud Bengal,” he wrote.

Sherman was named 2025 Principal of the Year by two state organizations – The S.C. Association of School Administrators (SCASA) and the S.C. Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA).

Prior to being named principal at Blythewood High School, Sherman served the school as assistant administrator and assistant principal.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.

Sherman and his wife Windy are the parents of a son who graduated from BHS in 2022 and attends Clemson University. Their daughter graduated from BHS last month.
